Witnessing The Path to The Technological Singularity

It has been more than a decade since I first came across the broader concept of Technological Singularity. It’s not all about and limited to the ongoing AGI, ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) hype, which most of the people are touting for long and has gained significant Momentum with Generative AI. Researches and advancements in AI has enormously accelerated its Potential in almost all the domains and areas we can think of.
This concept is much more than that, It’s an Evolution Phase that we as Human are Transitioning to.
Where Are We Now?
At present time, Human life is just two Epochs away from reaching the Technological Singularity (aka Singularity) which we will witness in our Lifetime (by 2045). It’s clear that the Path to Singularity will definitely Redefine what it means to be Human.
Above chart showcases the explosive rise of Computing Power over the 20th and 21st centuries, measured in Calculations per second per $1,000. It aligns with Moore’s Law and the broader trend of persistent Computational Growth that points toward a future where Machines Intelligence surpass / out-think Biological Intelligence.
As per this trajectory, we can see Affordable Computing Power outpacing the Combined Processing capability of all Human Brains (around 2045 to 2050). This will be a landmark moment in the Journey toward the Path to Technological Singularity (where AI outperforms human intelligence in every fields and domain).
Additionally, one key point this trajectory is highlighting is Shrinking Cost of Intelligence, which is making advanced AI Decision System, Implementation accessible across Industries.
In General Purpose AI Models / LLMs context we are already witnessing the same (from Nov’2022 to Jan’2025) and this trend will follow the path.
The Path to (Technological) Singularity
First published in 2005, Ray Kurzweil’s book “The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology” has widely popularized the concept of the Singularity which predicts a future where Human Life and Machine Intelligence merge.
Singularity, as described by Ray Kurzweil through his book, marks the point —
“It’s a future period during which the pace of Technological Change will be so Rapid, its impact so deep, that Human Life will be irreversibly transformed. Although neither utopian nor dystopian, this Epoch will Transform the Concepts that we rely on to give Meaning to our Lives, from our Business Models to the cycle of Human Life, including Death itself.”
We can also see the evidences of the Transition from Epoch 4 (Technology) to Epoch 5 (Merge of Technology and Human Intelligence) is becoming more apparent, as the collective Transformative Work being done in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI areas globally evolving.
Likewise, innovations like Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI), Self-learning AI systems, and Advanced Automation are Accelerating this shift for a Future where AI seamlessly Integrates with Human Cognition.
This means, there is a strong possibility or near certainty we will witness some key phenomenon in our Lifetime —

Accessing the Internet Directly through your Thoughts. With Brain-Computer Interfaces, individuals will connect seamlessly to Cloud Systems, instantly Retrieving and Sharing Knowledge thus leading to amplified Collective Intelligence. - Nano-Technology in Healthcare:
Tiny nano-bots in our Bloodstream will Repair Tissues, Combat Diseases, and Monitor Health in Real-time, potentially making Aging and Disease Obsolete.

- Continuously practicing and taking Human Cognitive Skills to the next levels will bring differentiation to the workforce (Human from Machines) and it will be highly valued for longer run.

As we move forward on the Path to Technological Singularity, the question is no longer if it will happen but how we shape its Impact?
Remember, the future of the Singularity is not just about Machines Surpassing Human Intelligence.
